NEH The Light eau de parfum is one of those fragrances that truly surprises you with how much it has going on. This is a delicious gourmand that refuses to be one-dimensional, presenting a beautiful interplay of woody, sweet, fruity, and spicy facets all smoothed together by a gorgeous cashmere accord that adds this elegant, luxurious touch. It occupies this really interesting space somewhere between the two classic terriotories of airy gourmands and heavy woody-spicy scents, creating unique transition from light to dark notes. What I’ve noticed straight from the start is that The Light dances with a lot of cinnamon on my skin. You might catch just a whisper of it and focus on rhubarb accord at first, but this fragrance carves out its own distinctive identity in my skin which is entirely different from what I sense off the blotter.

The performance is exactly what you want from an EDP lasts all day and does not suffocate me, while being noticed and appreciated by people around me. The sillage sits in that perfect spot for me. What really captivates me is how NEH Light manages to be tart, zingy, and fresh while simultaneously feeling spicy yet zen. It’s uplifting and calming all at once, stimulating senses into alertness without triggering any “must go do something around home” vibes. That is a quality of a perfect chilling around home scent.

There’s this smoky cinnamon-pink pepper-woody quality that makes you feel like you’re taking a peaceful, meditative walk through a forest, breathing in the crisp air with tang of fruity and earthy scents around you. Tangerine along the drydown brings a slightly bitter edge that keeps things from becoming too sweet, adding tartness to crunchy rhubarb sweetness without overpowering it.

NEH The Light is all about that interesting play of notes that might not be for everyone, especially if assertive, spicy scents aren’t typically your preference, but the technical execution is undeniably impressive. Conceptually it is a really fascinating observation for my nose. In my mind, the scent explores the contrast between light and darkness, similar to what Guerlain achieved with their Angelique Noire and Djedi back in the days. It is truly hard to create something genuinely unique and this contrasting.

NEH The Light is probably best suited for fall and winter with its warmth and richness of the base. It doesn’t mean you can’t wear it year-round. Try it and let me know what you think of it.
