MAISON VIOLET UN AIR D'APOGÉE EXTRAIT
OFFICIAL BRAND STATEMENT
Daylight fades… swallowed by the night.
Headlights cut through the dusk. The engine breaks the silence.
Worn leather, warm asphalt… and on my skin, the wind.
The road stretches endlessly. Fleeting shadows trace its edge.
In the air, a golden softness of blond tobacco lingers.
On your lips, the sweetness of raspberry.
All is dark, all is blurred… yet our direction remains unmistakably clear.
The night is ours.
Carried by freedom itself… I embrace Un Air d’Apogée.

MY THOUGHTS
MAISON VIOLET Un Air D’apogée Extrait is a substantial reformulation from its parfum predecessor, diverging significantly in both compositional structure and olfactory trajectory. Having experienced the original parfum formulation during my early exploration of Maison Violet fragrance collection, I can attest to its distinctive character. It firmly holds third place amongst my other favourites from the line: Sketch or Cycle 001(this one being one of the most worn scents in my collection).
If you’re familiar with the original Un Air d’Apogée eau de parfum, prepare yourself for something quite different with MAISON VIOLET Un Air D’apogée Extrait concentration. This isn’t just a stronger version of what came before. Instead, it’s practically a reimagining of the entire fragrance, taking the composition in a bold new direction that might surprise longtime fans. The biggest change? That sharp, aromatic tobacco note that defined the parfum has now taken a major step back.
In the original, it was front and center, giving the fragrance its distinctive fresh tobacco character. In the extrait, that element recedes into the background, no longer driving the experience. It’s still there if you look for it, but it’s playing a supporting role now rather than leading the show.
What does take center stage is iris, which opens even more prominently than before with that beautiful dry, earthy, almost mineral quality that iris lovers know and appreciate. But here’s where things get really interesting: the extrait then develops into something simultaneously sweeter and more leather-forward than the parfum ever was. It’s a surprising shift that completely changes the fragrance’s personality. Steering it more into the masculine cold-weather territory.
The original parfum was remarkably restrained in its sweetness, especially for a tobacco scent. It stayed fresh and relatively unsweetened throughout its development. The extrait throws that restraint aside, embracing a level of sweetness that’s notable even for a leather fragrance, which are typically already pretty rich and opulent. The leather itself reminds me of Van Cleef & Arpels’ Bois Doré. A scent that is remarkably woody, resinous, with this distinctive rubbery quality that adds depth and interest. And also of the Cuir Beluga with its soft leather accord. You won’t find and IBQ monster in MAISON VIOLET Un Air D’apogée Extrait.
What’s fascinating is that the sweetness feels like it should be coming from tonka bean, almond, or coumarin, but none of those appear in the listed notes. Either there are some undisclosed ingredients at play, or the combination of accords is creating this sweet impression through chemistry alone.
Personally, I’m most drawn to the opening, where that dry, stark, earthy iris dominates before the sweeter leather takes over. I’ll admit I have a known bias toward iris-heavy fragrances, so that preference isn’t surprising. The drydown is where I feel more conflicted. It’s objectively well-composed, rich, and complete as a fragrance, and I enjoy it when I smell it directly. But it’s not something I’d typically reach for myself given my usual preferences.
That said, I genuinely appreciate that MAISON VIOLET didn’t just create a redundant, slightly stronger version of the parfum. This extrait stands as its own interpretation, offering something meaningfully different for those who want to explore another facet of the Un Air d’Apogée concept.
