ZOOLOGIST ELEPHANT EXTRAIT DE PARFUM
OFFICIAL BRAND STATEMENT
Huge trees quake at their approach, vulnerable leaves shuddering as the ground rumbles under heavy footsteps. They come with appetites as massive as their lumbering bodies. Nothing is spared from their bottomless hunger – trees stripped bare, roots upturned, even the tiniest blooms cannot escape their grasp. When the behemoths move on, they leave behind a path of destruction. Yet what often looks like carnage is actually a renaissance. The elephants fulfill a vital role – purging the delicate ecosystem, allowing new life to flourish.
From beneath a canopy of lush, damp foliage, the complex aromas of Zoologist Elephant emerge. Into a mixture of invigorating Darjeeling and incense, swirl hints of coconut and cocoa. With the patience of a foraging herd stripping the bark from a thicket of trees, the fragrance dissipates gradually. What is revealed is the core of the perfume – a beautiful and satisfying blend of woody notes, which dry down to an elegant, natural sandalwood scent.

MY THOUGHTS
ZOOLOGIST as a brand is built upon the reputation on highly conceptual, artistic interpretations of the animal kingdom, with each fragrance mimicking not just the creature itself but often its entire living environment. This approach has earned the brand multiple awards and a devoted following among those seeking truly unique olfactory experiences. Elephant continues this tradition with a fragrance that focuses less on the animal itself and more on its lush, verdant origins.
From the first spray, ZOOLOGIST Elephant is so intensely green that it practically throws you into a wet, humid forest teeming with life and discovery. Tree leaves dominate the opening, creating an impression of dense foliage and the almost chlorophyll-rich scent of crushed greenery. Darjeeling tea emerges prominently, bringing its characteristic muscatel grape-like quality alongside vegetal, slightly astringent freshness. Magnolia adds floral touches, though this note proves fleeting, vanishing relatively quickly to leave room for the composition’s true stars. I would personally appreciate its presence for some more time but c’est la vie. I have what I have on my skin.
The heart develops into the most beautiful interplay of black tea and incense. The tea note deepens from the bright Darjeeling opening into something richer and more oxidized, evoking well-steeped black tea with earthy, malty undertones. Incense weaves through this tea character, adding resinous smoke and a meditative quality that enhances the sense of being deep within an ancient forest. Cocoa powder appears subtly, contributing a slight bitterness and richness without reading as chocolate. Coconut milk and saldalwood bring the majestic creamy smoothness that softens the composition’s edges. I can’t call it a jasmine forward scent, to my luck it’s merely a floral whisper, ghost of the past.
What makes Elephant particularly compelling is how these elements combine to create an atmosphere rather than simply a pleasant smell. This is immersive perfumery that transports you to a specific place, where humidity hangs in the air and life thrives in every direction. The greenness never becomes overwhelming or sharp but rather maintains a natural, organic quality that feels authentic rather than constructed.
The projection proves strong for the first four hours, creating noticeable presence before settling closer to skin. This evolution mirrors the experience of exploring a forest, beginning with the overwhelming sensory input of entering dense vegetation before your senses adjust and you become part of the environment rather than an intruder. The longevity lives up to its namesake, lasting well over twelve hours and demonstrating the staying power one would expect from a creature as enduring as an elephant.
The base brings everything together with sandalwood providing creamy woodiness that complements the tea beautifully. Amber adds warmth and resinous sweetness, while musks contribute skin-like intimacy. Patchouli grounds the composition with earthy depth, ensuring the green and tea notes have substantial foundation. The sandalwood-tea combination in the dry down proves particularly satisfying, creating a meditative, contemplative finish that feels both sophisticated and comforting.
Zoologist’s head of the brand, Michael Wong, deserves genuine applause for his daring, cohesive vision. Each fragrance in the line commits fully to its concept, and Elephant exemplifies this approach perfectly by capturing not just an idea but an entire ecosystem. For those seeking fragrances that challenge conventions and offer genuine artistry, Zoologist continues to deliver experiences that transcend typical perfumery, proving that scent can be both conceptual and wearable, artistic and accessible.
