MY THOUGHTS
MARLOU Heliodose is strikingly sexy stuff. Let’s be honest, straightforward animalics aren’t typically my cup of tea, and they likely never will be. Yet somehow, Heliodose by Marlou perfumes managed to steal my heart completely. This narcotic nocturnal white flower creation achieves something remarkable, balancing ylang-ylang’s almost banana-like facets with wonderful indoles and musk to create beauty and beast in one bottle.
Heliodose captures a very specific moment of hot summer. It embodies the essence of summer itself without being a sunny side up scent perce. It is a scent of sunscreen that is drenched in sweat and salt from ocean water after long swim. Ylang-ylang dominates here with its heady, tropical character. Creamy and neon yelow, it lost its innocence due to the heaps of indole added tot he mix. I can imagine a lot of people will call Heliodose a tropical bliss, others will see jasmine here, some may notice banana milkshake. It’s all of that, hidden in the bottle. At one second it screams in indolic capital letters at you, second later after you blink twice, it is waving at you with coconut shavings on the milkshake notes. Minute later it’s your dream man bringing you the bouquet of freshly cut jasmine.
The indolic part is slightly dirty, showcasing the animalic quality that white flowers naturally possess. I love indole to certain extent and yet, huge white floral compositions are clearly win or loose situation with me. All depends on how they act on my skin. This little gem is going radiosilent on indoles for a while so I have actually plenty of time to enjoy the furr, florals and edible side of the Heliodose. And when indole kicks me into my nose I’m not scared of it anymore, because it is so well blended here. Agressive but in a very sexy, predatory way, indole is embraced fully.
I could sit and tell you the long story about the musk here. I’ll save you the trouble. Simply know it’s great. Little bit tidy-whitey in appearance on blotter, yet naughty and narcotic when on skin. I’m so glad our paths crossed and I finally have a scent in my collection that is a glorious ode to indole, plus some sunshine and brach erotica. Before this one, Francesca Bianchi Sex and the Sea reigned in this category for me. Well it ain’t no more. MARLOU Heliodose took the cake and ran with it.
