MY THOUGHTS
OMANLUXURY Nasaj takes its name from the Arabic wordthat means “weaving,” And, true to its inspiration, this fragrance interlaces tradition of hand-made trimming on garments, preserved through time, with modern olfactory profile. Nasaj is as delicate as the fine silky stitches in Omani embroidery. Created by perfumer Meabh McCurtin as a tribute to generations of women who have preserved their needlework techniques to these days. Each note tells its own story while contributing to a harmonious whole of the final piece.
The opening is all about the charming bright citruses: grapefruit, tangerine, and mandarin create a vivacious and radiant citrus burst that is very cologne-like. Clear, rounded and attractive. Pear brings the dash of soft juiciness into the play, establishing a clear fruity-citric direction the scent is going into. But wait! What’s happening here!? Instead of going full on citruses, it changes the course into white floral creaminess.
The floral heart spreads its wings instead. Pristine and controlled, yet not wholly innocent, creating what feels like a living bouquet of white flowers. Tuberose and jasmine bring creamy richness without being indolic or bubble-gummy, neroli adds bitter-sweet greenness, while lily, magnolia, and gardenia mix into a divine cloud of fluff, erasing their distinctive character for the greater good of big white bliss. There is a particular tender milkiness present on my skin at that stage, as if it is a floral nectar, not individual flower essence slapped together. It feels utterly luxurious and rich smelling without being a powerhouse, which is a typical direction for the brand. Someone tamed their horses and I love what I’m smelling here!
The base grounds this luminous creation in what is listed as Saffiano leather which I always associate with thick pressed-pattern bags (think Prada and Furla) and let’s be honest, Thank god I’m wrong. It’s the faint essence of transparant leather, like in Givenchy’s Cuir Blanc. And yes, there is a very creamy sandalwood base here too. Frankincense adds resinous depth and a spiritual quality to the base which is clearly my most favourite part of the OMANLUXURY Nasaj. There is clean and creamy woody depth to the base, something very unexpected and elegant.
At the moment Nasaj succeeds as a Harvey Nichols exclusive, how ever in next days it will be available to the wider audience. Despite the elegantly blended and extremely likeable light profile, Nasaj is notoriously long-lasting scent, a beautifully soft composition that praises its inspiration rooted in fine craft. A timeless piece that combines centuries long tradition with modern side of things when it comes to its olfactory execution. Very unisex despite being a full on white floral composition.
