THE SCENT: An ethereal and airy trail transports you to a summer evening in Tuscany. Lavender and iris mingle with the sky, which takes on amethyst hues. You’re in harmony. In the distance, you catch sight of a small church surrounded by cypress trees, reaching skyward. A feeling of inner peace washes over you. You seem to float beyond the clouds, as if connected to cosmic forces.

The gemstone: The amethyst, crystal of wisdom, inviting us for deep calm and relaxation. It helps us to find a feeling of plenitude.

MY THOUGHTS

The opening of J’emme Au-dela des Nuages is nothing short of mesmerizing. The carrot accord, however unusual for most, is captivating in ways that defy easy description. It immediately sets the fragrance apart from anything else in your collection. Rather than feeling gimmicky or jarring, this vegetal note feels entirely natural and purposeful.

What makes this fragrance exceptional for me, personally, is how seamlessly the carrot integrates with its companions. Softly smoky green frankincense provides a meditative touch, while verdant green facets of bergamot and cypress add peculiar twist to it. Zingy pepper is there too, making my nose go “achoo” the very first seconds of wear.

Drying down on my skin, J’emme Au-dela des Nuages shows me its substantial irisy side. Mixed into the mineral-rich depth, a perfect counterpart. It’s a combination that creates this very grounded emotion. Traditional and thoroughly modern. The composition is never heavy or heady, it is immaculately clean and translucent. Closest I can compare it to in nature is the morning dew on garden soil where iris is blooming.

Oh and I love, love love the cedarwood here. This isn’t the sharp, pencil-shaving cedar that can feel harsh or masculine, but rather a smooth, polished non-lacquered wooden surface. I believe that cedar serves multiple purposes here: it provides structural support to the composition while simultaneously softening the more unconventional aspects of the opening. Itt enhances and refines what came before, adding depth without sacrificing the unique character that makes this fragrance so special.

Patrice Revillard has done an excellent job here. My only wish here, is for more people to discover this beautiful Belgian brand and explore the uniqueness of their compositions. None of the fragrances are “barbie”, none are unfinished, 3 out of 4 are exceptionally versatile for wearing on a daily basis.

If I had to call big french names, I’d definitely see J’emme Au-dela des Nuages being amongst the line from CELINE.
