MY THOUGHTS
Acqua Di Parma Vaniglia is one of those scents that can summon you from across a crowded store, with its lustrous black bottle and enigmatic posh vanilla scent hidden inside. After multiple encounters with it I finally surrendered to buying it second hand. The question was: would it live up to those fleeting counter encounters once it could take a solid place in my collection. And yes it did!
The initial spray immediately reveals why this fragrance has such stopping power. Vaniglia opens with a finely nuanced take on vanilla: absolutely not cloying, mature and refined. Very “wawawiwa” sophisticated territory. This citrusy freshness at the start is luckily fleeting, serving more as an elegant introduction. This citrusy move prevents the fragrance from falling into the gourmand trap of modern sweetness overload.
As Vaniglia settles into its true personality it reveals its powdery heart of fine heliotrope. It is the kind of gentle dustiness that makes me want to snuggle to people when I wear it. Cedar in the base creates more of that dry structure without adding extra heavy weight to vanilla, framing and taming it so well.
In the crowded mass-appeal loud vanilla era we are currently in, landscape, Acqua Di Parma Vaniglia positioning is everything. And guess what happened? The brand discontinued it. Why? I don’t know. But I suspect its beauty was not commercial enough.
Shaaame!
Dear Acqua Di Parma team, please consider bringing it back. Not all of us want to smell like dessert or syrup.
