DIPTYQUE LAZULIO EAU DE PARFUM
OFFICIAL BRAND STATEMENT
The archetypal bottle is inspired by classic Diptyque codes, reinterpreted with a contemporary perspective. With the signature oval embedded in the glass, it becomes a window to the world, a magnifying glass revealing the name of the fragrance superimposed over the illustration on the back of the bottle. A spherical black aluminum cap completes a play of materials and shapes.Enclosed in an elegant black box, the bottle is tucked away in a pouch decorated with Diptyque’s signature oval—useful for bringing the fragrance along for travel. The paper packaging is embellished with Nigel Peake’s colourful, mellow watercolours—a beautifully presented gem to gift yourself or others.
“Lazulio expresses in a perfume the striking beauty of the peacock feather. I wanted to contrast a bright accord of tangy, lively rhubarb with the delicious, enveloping caress of benzoin. I chose rose and vetiver to add further emphasis to the interplay of different colours and textures, imagining the fragrance of a jewel as displayed by this fabulous bird.”

MY THOUGHTS
DIPTYQUE Lazuli is strange. Both scent wise and from its final presentation to the world on brands website. Either the perfumer totally missed the brief that was given to him, or the marketing team were too busy integrating AI text descriptions to their official release papers. Guess I’ll never know what happened there.
Anyhow, trying it for the first time in Harrods last week it instantly felt like the perfumer went down it’s beaten path with akigalawood and reinterpreting his own bestsellers. Again woodsy Bois Imperial woody nuances, fluffy genital (not gentle) touches of Amouage Guidance, again rhubarbarically toxic cannabis monster of Encelade, again familiar rose/peony accords from Fleur Narcotique. It feels like the DJ is just playing his fave 4-5 songs on repeat, all night long. I seriously start to feel that Quentin is a one trick pony of a perfumer, simply pushing the “priority” captives into anything that reaches his requests inbox.
I personally miss the blue part within Lazulio. So far the color representation of this collection on the boxes was giving me the clear idea which direction the perfume inside goes towards. With Lazuli it is not the case, or DIPTYQUE urgently needs to change the packaging to rainbow laser shooting aliens. I was expecting chilly watery refreshing sensation from it, instead I got the pink-green soup of many things.
It’s not bad scent to my nose, but it is not that great either. On the positive side, I do enjoy the fact that tart rhubarb is not overpowering in this composition, creating soft pastel stroke of it instead of being the bloody murder type of accord as it is in Encelade. Overal the loudness of Lazuli is seriously tamed down, but it remains very long lasting on the skin. Synthetics can be used in moderation after all buy signore Q.
