Purple Mémoire is a sophisticated scent opening with fresh top notes of aromatic lavender, bergamot, mandarin and just a hint of coriander. The soft floral heart unfolds with calming lavender and warm jasmine, with rich white flower notes, green cyclamen and smooth orris. A sensual base of amber, creamy sandalwood, rich labdanum and powdery musk layered with the comforting notes of vanilla and tonka bean bring the fragrance to a smooth close.

Distant memories forgone to time, and faint sensations of summer bring to light the beauty of Purple Mémoire. A homage to the English charm of Ivy Lodge, family home of Mary Anne Floris and James R.D. Bodenham for over 50 years from the late 1800’s. Ivy Lodge was a union of love and devotion encapsulated by sprawling gardens at harmony with nature, sprays of tranquil lavender swaying in the gently breeze, and lined by treasured herb gardens of coriander. Its fragrant aroma ready to greet you ahead of your arrival to ‘Dear Old Ivy Lodge’.

Mary Anne and James obtained the family business in 1878, with the intention of transporting elements of home into the hustle of London’s centre, perfectly capturing the olfactory feeling of family summers and the sensation of bright flora enveloping under the warmth of sunlit sky.

MY THOUGHTS

FLORIS Purple Memoire has been launched here in Netherlands last month at the Le Parfum boutique. I was able to participate in the event and learn some interesting facts about Floris as a brand and of course smell the newest addition to their portfolio.

Dedicated to embrace the lavender fully, Purple Memoire is the first unisex lavender scent in FLORIS’s collection. That being said, I personally find it a more of a feminine release rather than being unisex. All thanks to the added violets. Yes there is iris too, and heady touch of ylang ylang. However to my nose, the presence of violet alongside lavender is so powerful that I immediately think of good old Guerlains and Hilde Solani violets (Teatro Olfattivo Di Parma).

My mind wandering aside, FLORIS Purple Memoire is stunning. It is gentle and fragile scent, and for a lavender lover such as moi, it really adds something to the fragrance world and my lavender perfume collection. And that is whats important. The seemingly dry cold lavender has gained a totally different image. It is as if lavender is snuggled up in a warm blanket by the fireplace. The texture and feel of the fragrance is all about comfort and beauty. Dry cocoa powder, musks and tonka blend in the base is a perfect anchor, grounding the metallic aspect of lavender even further.

Compliments to the joint efforts of Nicola Pozzani and Penny Ellis perfumers! Once I started wearing FLORIS Purple Memoire, I had a real hard time to put my bottle down and pick another scent for my SOTD the next day, And that is a real excellent indicator on how addictive the end result is.
